Kids Dentistry

Baby teeth need the same attention as adult teeth do. The best way to control dental issues in your children is to prevent them from early childhood.

Please contact us if you have any questions or if you would like to schedule an appointment.

As one of the best dental clinics in Mississauga, we at Lakeshore Dental Center regularly see children as patients in our office. With this experience, we know that visiting the dentist can be stress-inducing for both the child and the parent, and that is why we strive to create a comfortable environment where everyone can feel comfortable, and you know you are being taken care of!

It is important that a child visits the dentist for regular check-ups every 6 to 12 months, starting when their first tooth erupts, or at the age of one. This is so that we can keep track of your child’s diet, oral hygiene and growth patterns.

These visits to the dentist at an early age are so important as it helps us build a relationship of trust with your child so that they can be more comfortable during their visit; having this trust with your child is especially beneficial later in life when your child may need proper dental work done.

Your Child’s First Visit

We know that visiting the dentist can be nerve-wracking, especially for young kids. That is why at Lakeshore Dental Center we make the first visit to the dentist as fun as possible! At your child’s first visit you can expect us to do a lot of playing around to make them comfortable. We play with “Mr. Thirsty” (which is what you may know as the suction), we blow hand balloons to give them high fives, we give rides in the magic chair, and even let them pick a toy from the toy chest!

This helps the child associate the dentist as a fun environment and helps us provide better service to your child as they begin to trust us more. Usually, we advise parents to bring the child along for a visit during their appointments before they need a check-up so that your child can get to know us before we do any dental work.

As for the first actual dental appointment, what we do completely depends on the age of your child and their comfort level, however you can typically expect light dental work such as teeth brushing, polishing, or a quick cleaning if they are comfortable enough.

Long-Lasting Oral Hygiene

The most common dental issue in children is tooth decay, and that is why we at Lakeshore Dental Center do our best to instill good preventative dental habits into your child from a young age. Aside from regular check-ups, we also encourage children to brush and floss their teeth to ensure that they won’t be coming back to the dentist with cavities.

In addition to this, we apply sealant or flowable feeling material to the premolars and permanent molars for extra protection against cavities, we do this for children around the ages of 6 and 12. This is important as bacteria typically hides in the ridges of the molars, causing tooth decay during these years as these years are when they are at risk of cavities.
