Deep Cleaning

Gum diseases are easily prevented with regular checkups, cleaning and following a routine maintenance schedule to establish a good oral health. However, if you find yourself suffering from gum disease, treatment consists of prevention of periodontal disease and also maintenance and conservation in confirmed cases of the disease.

Unfortunately, periodontal infections are usually silent, and can be present for many years, without any significant symptoms like pain. This is why regular visits to your dentist and hygienist are important especially if other health problems are present, like heart problems or diabetes. Visiting Lakeshore Dental Center for regular deep cleaning sessions will allow for a deep cleaning, removing plaque, tartar, bacteria and other debris that regular brushing alone cannot reach. For best results, cleaning sessions should be an ongoing commitment to ensure your dental health is at its absolute best. Whether it is for prevention or maintenance, preventing bacteria from impacting the gum line is a necessity.

Bone Grafting

Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that may be necessary as a precursor for future treatment, such as dental implants, or if loss of bone structure is impacting the oral health of teeth and gums. Bone can be taken from a suitable area in the body or otherwise an approved synthetic material can be used. The graft will then be surgically fused to your jaw to increase the amount of bone, repair damage or provide extra support.

This fortification will put you in the perfect position to receive further treatment, provide a solid bone structure for dental implants or prevent health implications from bone loss in the teeth and gums. Whilst we understand any surgical procedure is daunting for the patient, at Lakeshore Dental Center we strive to create the perfect environment in which you will feel at ease, which is why we are one of the best dental practices in Mississauga! Whether you are booking a free consultation to learn more about dental implants or to enquire about symptoms from potential bone loss, we will evaluate whether bone grafting is a necessary procedure for you and support you from there. Our friendly, knowledgeable and experienced team has the prowess and proficiency to carry out your bone grafting smoothly and assist you on the journey to dental wellbeing.

Crown Lengthening

Crown Lengthening

When the tooth is not long enough to keep the Crown on, such as when the teeth are broken or deeply decayed, it may be essential to lengthen the Crown in order to have a stronger bond between tooth and crown. Similarly, crown lengthening is important because it can help you have better oral hygiene and comfort due to having a proper fit for your crown margin.

Crown lengthening can also be beneficial for cosmetic purposes to fix “gummy smiles”, where the gums can be seen when smiling to a more than average extent. This is due to how Crown lengthening shortens the gum tissue, thus making it so that there is more tooth showing when smiling.

Laser Therapy

Dental laser therapy involves using a laser especially designed for use by your dentist. Laser therapy can be used for various treatments, including:

  • Gingivectomy
  • Gingival contouring
  • Root debridement
  • Crown Lengthening
  • Depigmentation of gingiva
  • Cutting and shaving
  • Peri implantitis
  • Frenectomy

The laser we use at Lakeshore Dental Center is a Diode soft tissue laser and is proven to be very effective in reducing the inflammation, accelerating tissue repair and growth. Furthermore, it improves the blood flow, reduces the formation of scar tissue, and helps with pain relief. Laser therapy also blocks the pain signals transmitted from injured parts of the body to the brain, increasing the production and release of endorphins and enkephalins.

Laser Therapy
During the treatment of periodontal pockets with conventional mechanical instruments, complete access and disinfection may not be achieved. Lasers have the potential advantages of bactericidal effect, detoxification effect, and removal of the epithelium lining and granulation tissue, which are desirable properties for the treatment of periodontal pockets.
Thus, laser systems which are completely different from conventional mechanical debridement, may emerge as a new technical modality for periodontal therapy in the near future. To enquire about the benefits of laser therapy in dentistry and how it can be of use to you, please contact Lakeshore Dental Center on 905-278-2913.
